
During my freshman year of college, I attended an evening lecture by Hazel Barnes at the University of Colorado. This was the early 1960s, and Dr. Barnes was a noted interpreter of the Existentialists and a translator of Jean-Paul Sartre. I was hooked. Sartre and Albert Camus seemed to me at that time to have the most stimulating and sense-making perspective on reality.
